Tasmania is a beautiful island state located south of mainland Australia, and it offers a unique and diverse range of landscapes and experiences for travelers. Recently, I had the opportunity to go on a road trip around the island and wanted to share my itinerary with you all.
Day 1: Hobart
I started my journey in Hobart, the capital city of Tasmania. I spent my first day exploring the city, visiting the historic Salamanca Place, and taking in the stunning views from Mount Wellington. I also recommend visiting the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) for a unique and contemporary art experience.
Day 2: Hobart to Freycinet National Park
On the second day, I set off on a scenic drive east to Freycinet National Park. The drive itself is beautiful, with winding roads and incredible views of the coast. Once I arrived, I hiked to the top of Wineglass Bay lookout for a panoramic view of the bay. I also took a dip in the crystal clear waters and went on a guided walk to see the local wildlife.
Day 3: Freycinet National Park to Cradle Mountain
On the third day, I continued my journey north to Cradle Mountain. The drive is spectacular, with views of the Great Western Tiers and the Tarkine Wilderness. Once I arrived at Cradle Mountain, I went on a hike to Dove Lake, where I was able to see the mountain up close and personal. I also went on a night walk to see the Tasmanian devils in their natural habitat.
Day 4: Cradle Mountain to Launceston
On the fourth day, I made my way to Launceston, Tasmania’s second largest city. Along the way, I stopped at the iconic Cataract Gorge, where I took a chairlift ride and went on a walk along the gorge. Once I arrived in Launceston, I visited the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery and took a stroll along the Tamar River.
Day 5: Launceston to Hobart
On my final day, I returned to Hobart, where I went on a tour of the Cadbury chocolate factory before catching my flight home.
Overall, my road trip in Tasmania was an unforgettable experience. The island state is truly a natural wonder and offers a diverse range of landscapes and activities for travelers. Whether you’re into hiking, wildlife, art, or food, Tasmania has something for everyone. I can’t wait to go back and explore more of this beautiful island state.
